The Adaptis team and a group of equine-friendly clients spent an enlightening day last week in the stables of the Horse Collective, a unique learning environment which allows individuals or groups to better understand and develop their leadership skills through interaction with horses.

The premise is beautifully simple. Horses are prey animals and so they respond to people instinctively, needing to understand where threats may lie. Their sensitivity means that they pick up on the emotional dynamics of a person or team, regardless of context or job title, so when you’re in the arena (in our case with Charlie, a beautiful and very friendly chap!) the behaviours you see can be an immediate and revealing representation of what’s happening with an individual or a business. It’s a physical manifestation of traits you may already know you foster – but witnessing these played out between a person and a horse provides some real food for thought.
